Tolimir's Verdict Confirmed Genocide in Srebrenica, but it Also Happened in Žepa

The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada IGK welcomes the final verdict of the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia to former general of the Army of the entity of Republika Srpska Zdravko Tolimir, whose first-instance verdict of life imprisonment for genocide and other war crimes committed in Srebrenica was confirmed. This verdict confirmed that genocide occurred in Srebrenica, i.e., Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Patria News Agency.

Tolimir participated in the joint criminal enterprise of the political, military, and police leadership of the RS entity, whose goals were the mass killing and forced removal of Bosniaks from Srebrenica.

The verdict confirmed that the mass killings of Srebrenica Bosniaks and the expulsion, abuse, and suffering of civilians constitute genocide, as they aimed to destroy the Bosniak population.

The IGK expresses dissatisfaction that the Appeals Chamber overturned part of the Trial Chamber's verdict relating to the genocide verdict in Žepa, also a territory of a United Nations safe zone.

The violent, treacherous, cowardly murder of three Bosniak leaders in Žepa - Mehmed Hajrić, Amir Imamović, and Avdo Palić, as well as the mass killing, expulsion, abuse, and suffering of Bosniak civilians constitute genocide, as they aimed to destroy the Bosniak population in the protected UN zone of Žepa.

Mocking, torturing, and killing Bosniak boys simply because they are Muslims is genocide, the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada announced.
