Judgment on the Netherlands' Responsibility for the Killings of Srebrenica Victims in July 1995

(Patria) - Representatives of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, the Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, and the Association of Women of Podrinje – Bratunac will attend today the pronouncement of a final verdict on the appeals of the Mothers of Srebrenica and the State of the Netherlands against the 2017 Court of Appeal ruling, which found the Netherlands partially responsible for the deaths of around 300 Srebrenica victims killed in July 1995.

Incidentally, more than 6,000 family members of those killed in the Srebrenica genocide sued the Netherlands in 2007, and seven years later, the District Court in The Hague ruled that the Netherlands was responsible for the deaths of more than 300 men whom the Dutch battalion expelled from the UN base on July 13, 1995, knowing they would be killed.

However, the victims' families and the State of the Netherlands appealed this ruling. The Court of Appeal confirmed the Netherlands' responsibility in 2017.
