Recommendations for employers due to high temperatures: Prevent consequences for workers' health

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, in accordance with the Law on Occupational Safety, recommended that employers, due to adverse weather conditions caused by high temperatures on the territory of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, implement special protective measures to prevent harmful consequences for workers' health.

Employers were recommended to consider the possibility of suspending outdoor work between 12 PM and 4 PM and resuming it after 4 PM. If the employer's work organization makes it impossible to implement this measure, the ministry recommended that employers move the start of the working day for workers performing outdoor tasks to six in the morning.

Furthermore, it was recommended that employers allow workers with diagnosed chronic illnesses to use their annual leave during such weather conditions, as well as absences in accordance with the law, collective agreement, or work rules.

It was recommended that institutions starting work at 9 AM or later adjust their start times to this situation. In addition, employers should allow for more appropriate attire for workers in institutions, companies, government bodies, and other legal entities, as well as appropriate attire at official events (parliamentary sessions, government meetings, etc.), adapted to high temperatures - according to the recommendation of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
