In April last year, Tolimir was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hague Tribunal for crimes against Bosniak Muslims from Srebrenica in the summer of 1995. During the war, Tolimir was the assistant for intelligence and security affairs to the commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, Ratko Mladić.
In 2012, Tolimir was sentenced to life imprisonment for command responsibility for the Srebrenica mass executions, as well as the murder of key figures of the Bosniak community in Žepa - as former assistant to Ratko Mladić for intelligence and security affairs in the Main Staff of the VRS.
- The verdict against Tolimir confirmed convictions for genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, extermination, murder, persecution, and inhumane acts (forcible transfer), based on Tolimir's participation in those two joint criminal enterprises. The Appeals Chamber confirmed that Tolimir actively participated and significantly contributed to those joint criminal enterprises, which resulted in the mass executions of thousands of Bosnian Muslims from Srebrenica and the forcible transfer of thousands of civilians from those two enclaves - the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) announced at the time.
