Zdenko Mihajlović, respected BiH economist and banker, has passed away

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Zdenko Mihajlović, a respected economist and one of the most successful bankers in BiH in the last few decades, passed away on Thursday, June 21. Mihajlović was born in Lukavac, and the mayor of Lukavac, Edin Delić, also bid him an emotional farewell.

- A great man, friend, creator, humanist has left us... A man from Lukavac, Sarajevo, a citizen of the world, and a great gentleman, Zdenko Mihajlović. Our sincere condolences to the Mihajlović family, relatives, friends, and acquaintances, with wishes that our Zdenko rests in peace and the belief that he has deserved the best part in the afterlife - Delić wrote on his Facebook profile.

Businessman Nijaz Skenderagić is also shaken by the news of his friend's death.

- Our Zdenko Mihajlović has embarked on a one-way journey. Rest in peace, our dear friend Zdena - Mihajlović wrote.

Mihajlović was also the president of the Communist Party and one of the founders of the Association of Citizens Friends of BiH. He was also the vice-president of the organization "East-West Bridge".

Before the war, he worked at Privredna banka, after which he started with the private Market Banka, where he was one of the co-owners, as well as the deputy general director. For many years, he was a member of the management of Raiffesen bank and, according to many, one of the most responsible for that bank reaching the leading position in BiH.

He was also once a successful athlete, a handball player for Željezničar (Sarajevo). During his sports career, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics, and was one of the few athletes with a university degree.

The date and place of the funeral will be announced later.
