Aunt Zilha Passed Away, Prepared Food for Kitchen Users Until the Last Moment

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Zilha Šeta, manager of the Old Town National Kitchen, better known as Aunt Zilha, passed away in Sarajevo at the age of 69.

This news saddened all those who knew Aunt Zilha, as well as all the users of the kitchen where she prepared meals for almost three decades and cared for her users along with other employees. Although she herself suffered from diabetes, Aunt Zilha did not give up, so there was no talk of her announced retirement and pension.

When we asked her in 2019 if she was tired after all these years of work, she said she wasn't tired, but that age was taking its toll.

“I wish everyone could peek into our souls. We are not tired. I am 67 years old and I don't know if I will be in this place next year. I pray to God to endure Kurban Bayram and the New Year,” Aunt Zilha said at the time.

But Aunt Zilha worked until the last moment when her strength failed her.

She received numerous awards for her humanity - the International Award for Benevolence in Turkey, the April 6th Award of the City of Sarajevo, recognition from emeritus Dr. Mustafa Cerić, who served as the Reis-ul-ulema, and in 2003 she was chosen as Woman of the Year (Žene magazine).
