Canadian Prime Minister Carney condemns attack at Vancouver festival: I am deeply shaken

(Patria) - Canadian officials said they are deeply saddened and shocked by the incident at a street festival in Vancouver in which several people were killed and more injured when a vehicle plowed into the crowd. The festival had gathered numerous members of the Filipino community in Vancouver when the vehicle crashed into the crowd.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was deeply shaken after hearing about the "terrible events" at the festival in Vancouver, reports Reuters.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim stated he was "shocked and deeply saddened" by the "terrible incident" at the festival, reports CBC.

"I am devastated by the news of the horrific events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver. I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and injured, the Filipino-Canadian community, and everyone in Vancouver. We all mourn with you. We are closely monitoring the situation and are grateful to our first responders for their swift reaction," the Prime Minister stated in a post.

Premier of the Canadian province of British Columbia David Eby said in a post on platform X that he was "shocked and heartbroken" after hearing that there were fatalities and injuries at the festival in Vancouver.

Several people were killed and more injured when a vehicle plowed into the crowd at a street festival in Vancouver, Canada, police said, without specifying the exact number of casualties.

Police said the driver is in custody following the incident that occurred on Saturday near Fraser Street and East 41st Avenue, reports CBC.

It is noted that police will release more information as the investigation progresses.
