Ceasefire Violated: Israeli Military Kills Two, Wounds Seven Palestinians in Gaza

(Patria) - Two Palestinians were killed and seven, including a child, were wounded in Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip today, despite the ceasefire agreement in the enclave.

Medical sources stated that a young Palestinian was killed and two were wounded west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces also shot and killed a young man in the center of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military also opened fire on a group of displaced civilians waiting to be allowed to return to northern Gaza, wounding five people, including a child, medical sources said.

According to witnesses, hundreds of displaced civilians spent the night outdoors in the cold while waiting for Israeli permission to return to their areas in the northern Gaza Strip.

Witnesses say that Israeli military vehicles, positioned along the Netzarim Corridor, which separates the north and south of the Gaza Strip, opened fire on a group of displaced people as they waited for the military to withdraw and allow them to return to the north of the enclave under the ceasefire agreement.

Israeli authorities refused to allow Palestinian residents to return to northern Gaza until Israeli captive Arbel Yehud is released. Hamas confirmed that the hostage will be released in the next exchange.

The first six-week phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19, halting Israel's genocidal war in which more than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed and over 111,000 wounded since October 7, 2023.

Seven Israeli captives, including four female soldiers, have been released so far in exchange for 290 Palestinian prisoners since the agreement took effect.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over the war in the enclave.
