Defence Review: Police and Military Intelligence Battalion Under Direct Control of Operational Command

At tomorrow's session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, deputies will discuss the information from the Ministry of Defence of BiH on the Defence Review, which was adopted last month by the Presidency of BiH, Patria reports.

The Defence Review is a document that presents the vision of the Armed Forces of BiH for the next 10 years. This document envisages a reduction in the number of professional military personnel from 10,000 to 9,200, the reserve component from 5,000 to 4,600, while the number of civilians remained unchanged at 1,000.

Also, the number of prospective locations has been reduced from 63 to 57, of which six are ammunition and mine-explosive ordnance storage sites. The reduction took into account entity and regional balance.

In the structure of infantry brigades, within all first infantry battalions, first motorised companies have been defined, which, by their structure and equipment, fully meet the implementation of the NATO operational capabilities and evaluation concept.

In order to improve and enhance engineer support, engineer companies have been integrated into infantry brigades, which will be manned by one active engineer platoon, while the remaining part will be in reserve.

When it comes to logistical support, where necessary, logistics units have been integrated to improve direct logistical support. In the Air Force Brigade, in addition to existing units, an additional flying company has been introduced.

The existing chain of command and control has been retained, as well as all brigade-level units, whereby three battalions from the Tactical Support Brigade – the Military Police, Military Intelligence, and Police Battalion – have been placed directly under the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of BiH.

All other units from the Tactical Support Brigade remain within its composition. Along with the Defence Plan, the Ministry of Defence has also drawn up the Development and Modernisation Plan of the Armed Forces of BiH.
