The President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, has fiercely criticized the recent protests organized by the Pegida group "against the Islamization of the country", reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Schuster said that among the people protesting against the Islamization of the country, he sees a mixture of neo-Nazis, far-right parties, and citizens who can finally indulge in their racism and hatred towards everything foreign.
- Pegida people must not be underestimated in any way. That movement is as dangerous as a wildfire - assessed Schuster in an interview for the daily newspaper Welt, Schuster, who was elected president of the Central Council at the end of November.
- It is absolutely unacceptable to use a few Islamists to support the thesis that Germany is threatened by the establishment of an Islamist theocracy. This is as absurd as it would be absurd to conclude that due to a few right-wing extremists, a national socialist dictatorship will return tomorrow.
According to him, the protests were organized with the aim of "using the fear of terrorism to humiliate Islam", which, Schuster said, is unacceptable. On Monday, at least 15,000 people protested in Dresden against the alleged Islamization of the country, reports Patria.
Pegida's protests, thanks to strong media coverage, have spread to several other cities in Germany.
