Presidential elections in Russia - Three opponents to challenge Putin

(Patria) - Four candidates will compete for the position of President of Russia in the March elections, announced today Ela Pamfilova, chairwoman of the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC).

The CEC of Russia has officially registered four candidates - independent candidate Vladimir Putin, the current president of Russia, and representatives of parliamentary parties Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People), and Nikolay Kharitonov (KPRF), reported "Sputnik".

"Today we are completing a certain cycle, as after our session today it is completely clear that there will be four candidates on the ballot," said Pamfilova.

At the session, members of the Central Election Commission rejected the candidacies of Boris Nadezhdin, Sergey Malinkovich, Anatoly Batashev, and Rada Ruskikh for the presidential elections in March, reported Srna.

Nadezhdin later said he would appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.

The presidential elections in Russia will take place from March 15 to 17.
