SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Several EU member state presidents have published an open letter calling for Ukraine's swift EU candidacy, reports The Guardian.
The letter reads:
"We, the presidents of the EU member states: the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic, and the Republic of Slovenia firmly believe that Ukraine deserves to be given an immediate prospect of accession to the EU.
Therefore, we call on the EU member states to consolidate the highest political support for Ukraine and enable the EU institutions to take steps to immediately grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership and open the negotiation process.
At this critical moment, we reiterate our full solidarity with Ukraine and its people.
The open letter followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's appeal earlier today for Ukraine to be granted EU membership under a special procedure, and Ukraine will formally apply for membership."
