'Overdosed national identity turns into nationalism, which brings misfortune to one's own nation'

(Patria) - For about thirty years, the peoples in BiH have been in a desperate defense of their own national identity and self-sufficiency, which they perceive as being threatened by other peoples. Viewed from this perspective, in which peoples have been exhausting their greatest potentials all this time, the situation looks approximately like this, wrote Professor Esad Duraković in a column published on the N1 television portal, reports Patria.

Professor Duraković points out that the results of the struggle for the defense and full affirmation of national identity/identities are obviously "impressive", adding that entire areas have changed their national structure "in order, in the name and for the sake of optimal affirmation of national identity, to ethnically cleanse themselves of other national entities which, as the Other, contaminate the space and represent a constant threat to our national entity and identity."

"Please forgive the reader for repeating the words national identity and national entity so often, but – for more than a quarter of a century, these categories have been absolutely the most important here. In line with this, today in BiH there is a lot of uninhabited space, but even that space is fortunate: it is better to be like that than to be inhabited by those who, by their very existence next to us, or – God forbid, with us! – threaten our identity," writes Duraković.

"State borders are, in this regard, and considering these noble goals, pure nonsense, they are an obstacle: that is why it was justified to attack BiH from the East and from the West, and even from the South – in order to cleanse and delineate the spaces of national corpora," states Professor Esad Draković.
