Detention proposed for four migrants, circumstances of them being armed being investigated

(Patria) - Following the questioning of the suspects, who were apprehended in a joint operational action by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and the BiH Border Police, in the area of Donji Svilaj, where an improvised migrant camp was discovered, and weapons and ammunition were found, the acting prosecutor has submitted a motion for detention to the BiH Court for the suspects:

1. Basir Waziri, born in 1992 in Ningrahar, Afghanistan, citizen of Afghanistan, previously convicted for drug abuse in Subotica, Serbia, with a sentence of six months imprisonment.
2. Nisar Ahmad, born in 2005 in Kabul, Afghanistan, citizen of Afghanistan,
3. Bilal Afghan, born in 2003 in Qunduz, Afghanistan, citizen of Afghanistan,
4. Abdul Qayoom Faqiri, born in 1994 in Jous Jan, Afghanistan, citizen of Afghanistan.

The suspects are under investigation for criminal offenses – Association for the Commission of Criminal Offenses under Article 249 and Unauthorized Trafficking of Weapons, Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use under Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the collected evidence, the migrants were located in an improvised camp situated in close proximity to the state border with the Republic of Croatia, near the MGP Donji Svilaj, municipality of Odžak, with the intention of smuggling the aforementioned firearms and ammunition into the Republic of Croatia. The BiH Prosecutor's Office, SIPA, the Border Police, and partner police and security agencies are conducting investigative activities to determine all circumstances of the presence of armed migrants in the area along the BiH and Croatian border, as in previous activities of law enforcement agencies, armed members of the migrant population have generally not been recorded in BiH, especially not in possession of automatic weapons and ammunition.

A motion for the determination of the detention measure, due to the risk of the suspects absconding, has been submitted to the BiH Court.
