Detention Proposed for Adnan Subašić, Suspected of Arson at Gradačac's 'Husejnija' Mosque

(Patria) - The Tuzla Canton Prosecutor's Office has submitted a proposal to the pre-trial judge of the Cantonal Court in Tuzla to order one-month detention for Adnan Subašić (35) from Gradačac due to well-founded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of arson.

Subašić is suspected of having, on November 19th around 12:30 PM, using gasoline and a lighter, and being aware that he would set fire to a public building, caused a fire in the "Husejnija" mosque in Gradačac, which was declared a national monument in 2004 and is under UNESCO protection.

During the incident, a large part of the interior of the building was destroyed, causing material damage amounting to at least 800,000 KM.

An on-site investigation at the scene was conducted under the supervision of the duty prosecutor by investigators from the Criminal Police Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton and a fire protection expert.

By order of the prosecutor, an expert in architecture assessed the damage incurred.

The suspect was arrested on the same day in the evening, underwent criminal processing, and was handed over to the Prosecutor's Office with a report on the committed criminal offense.

Investigative actions in this case are ongoing.
