Detention requested for border guard suspected of accepting bribe, endangering public health

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested detention for border police officer Rajo Kikić (born 1963) from Brezik, due to reasons described in Article 132, paragraph 1, point d) of the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH, because the suspect, through his actions, seriously endangered the health of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina by allowing three individuals coming from Austria, one of the countries with intensive coronavirus transmission, to enter without any sanitary or health examination and without valid travel documents.

After questioning the suspect, who refused to testify, the acting prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption submitted a request for detention to the Court of BiH.

The suspect is under investigation for soliciting and accepting a bribe, in order to, contrary to legal provisions and bypassing prescribed health and sanitary procedures, allow three passengers who came from Croatia and had previously been in other countries to enter BiH at the Brčko border crossing.

Given that these were young individuals with intensive social contacts and movement, the suspect's actions posed a great danger to the health and lives of BiH citizens.

The individuals who were allowed to enter BiH have been located and processed in accordance with the introduced measures and provisions on self-isolation.

Detention for the suspect has been requested due to reasons described in Article 132, paragraph 1, point d) of the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH, because the suspect's actions caused public unrest and fear among citizens due to the potential consequences of the committed criminal offense.

The request has been submitted to the Court of BiH.
