(Patria) - The Operational Staff for Migration Issues in BiH, chaired by the Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić, held a meeting today to discuss activities and measures for combating illegal migrations and accommodating migrants currently on the territory of BiH.
At today's meeting, issues to be discussed by the BiH delegation at the meeting with representatives of the European Union on July 17, 2019, in Brussels, concerning the current migration situation in BiH, were also considered.
In the first five months of this year, according to official data from the State Agency for Foreigners' Affairs, around 10,000 illegal migrants entered BiH, which is almost double the number compared to the same period last year when 5,130 migrants were registered.
The largest number of illegal migrants this year comes from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Algeria, Morocco, and India. There are fewer Iranians compared to last year, as Serbia has reintroduced visas for citizens of that country, who previously used it to enter the region and move illegally towards EU countries, also using the territory of BiH.
