Money laundering or embezzlement: Private SDA accountant controls the budget of the City of Sarajevo!?

Despite the fact that the budget of the City of Sarajevo is increasingly in doubt, that it is completely unknown whether the Sarajevo Canton will pay the installments it was legally obligated to pay so far, and that for a longer period funds from four city municipalities have not been flowing into the budget, the Administration led by Mayor Ivo Komšić was not prevented from hiring a private accounting firm to perform tasks that could be done by someone from the already existing finance department, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Chronologically speaking, in the spring of this year, under the pretext that the auditor's decision must be respected, Komšić terminated the service contract with a professional associate for accounting. Despite the fact that the long-time assistant to the mayor, Firdevsa Bračković, asked the mayor to give her one person to do this type of work, he ignored her requests.

Not to mention that ten people work in the finance department, one of whom could have been trained for this type of work in the meantime.

Under the direct influence of his deputy Aljoša Čampara, Komšić hired the private accounting firm "Sonex" with only one employee, specifically for the tasks that the employee who was fired used to do.

This is a prominent cadre of the SDA from Novi Grad, a person who has already charged 10,000 KM for his services for recording daily changes in finances and preparing two reports on the use of funds (six-month and nine-month)!

Bračković, otherwise the long-time assistant to the mayor, was abruptly dismissed 20 days ago due to constant warnings that the law must be respected when redistributing money within the budget and pointing out numerous irregularities that were committed, and her position was filled by Sahrudin Sarajčić, the former assistant to the mayor for local business.

The catastrophic management of the City Administration by Komšić, the lack of transparency in spending budget money, and even suspicions of money laundering, which are now obviously being covered up through the private SDA accountant, will certainly lead the already struggling city to total ruin.

And what is not only indicative in this whole story, but also a total absurdity, is certainly the fact that for the first time a state institution or body has hired a private firm to perform accounting tasks, and everyone knows that the bureaucratic apparatus in this country at all levels of government is overly bloated.
