(Patria) – More than 2,000 homes have been destroyed in massive bushfires in southeastern Australia, and a worsening of the already severe crisis has been announced despite rain that brought relief to the regions of New South Wales and Victoria.

The slight improvement in weather conditions is being used by tireless firefighters to contain areas not affected by the fires.

However, a sharp rise in temperature is forecast again on Friday, which could cause even larger fires.

Since last September, the fires have claimed at least 25 human lives, while millions of animals have disappeared from the face of the earth.

In the cities of Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, continuous waves of smoke are causing respiratory problems, with particular risk for the elderly, children and pregnant women. Visibility in most parts of Melbourne has been reduced to 1 km due to smoke.

The military has delivered food, water and medicine supplies, as well as personnel and vehicles, to Kangaroo Island near the city of Adelaide in South Australia. This island has suffered enormous damage from the fires, and two people lost their lives last week.
