Fires on Prenj and Plasa still active this morning, helicopter could not take off due to thick smoke

Fires on Prenj and Plasa are still active this morning. The Civil Protection explains that a light rain fell this morning, but it is still dry under the tree canopies, reports the Patria news agency.

In Herzegovina, fires have been burning for several days, first in Trebinje, then on Prenj and Hum above Mostar, and subsequently at several other locations. The fires threaten to endanger the M17 road as well. The helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina prevented the spread of fire into the high forest of Plasa yesterday, but it did not take off this morning due to the high concentration of smoke above Hum, which it was supposed to extinguish. 

The Civil Protection states that on the part of the fire site towards the M-17 highway and the Sarajevo – Mostar railway line, there is a constant danger of rocks rolling due to the steep slope of the terrain. 

The fires in the area of Habatnica and Gornja Duboka in the Stolac municipality were extinguished on Saturday evening, but since around 7 a.m. this morning, a fire has been active in the village of Bačnik. 

In the area of Mostar, firefighters extinguished two smaller fires in the past 24 hours, and one in the area of Čapljina.
