Three firefighters lost their lives and four were injured while battling fires in the town of Twisp in the northern part of the US state of Washington, announced Washington Governor Jay Inslee, reports the Patria news agency.
The firefighters died after the speed of the fire's spread forced authorities to order the evacuation of Twisp and Winthrop, settlements on the slopes of the Cascade Mountains.
The fires have devastated more than 400,000 hectares in the American West, and firefighters have called in the military for assistance.
Nearly 30,000 firefighters have been mobilized to fight the fires raging in ten states, mostly in the western part of the country, where since the beginning of the year an area larger than half of Croatia has burned.
The fires are currently raging in ten US states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, California, North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, and Arizona, reports HRT.
