FIRE NEAR KONJIC BEING EXTINGUISHED BY HELICOPTER Local authorities suspect arson

(Patria) - Fires in the area of the local community Glavatičevo, location Sadine, and at Borci remain active and are spreading, with a helicopter from the Armed Forces of BiH assisting in extinguishing.

– Unfortunately, due to high temperatures and very difficult terrain, the fire remains active. Teams are on the ground and working as much as possible. Part of the fire is also in a mined area, so the situation is truly very difficult – Husein Hodžić, assistant mayor in the Civil Protection and Firefighting Service of Konjic, told Fena.

He added that so far at Borci, more than 500 hectares of pine forest, about 60 years old, have been burned.

– In Glavatičevo, fires have been recorded at several locations, giving the impression that someone is setting them intentionally. Just as one location calms down, a fire breaks out at another. We cannot say anything with certainty, but something strange is happening – Hodžić assessed.

According to him, the fires currently do not threaten buildings or the population.

On the ground are Konjic firefighters and employees of the forestry company “Prenj”, and in Glavatičevo, locals are also helping.
