Fire Engulfs Residential Building in Saudi Arabia: Two Dead and 105 Injured

At least two people have died and 105 have been injured in a fire that engulfed a residential building housing employees of the Saudi oil company Aramco, in eastern Saudi Arabia, reported on Sunday the civil protection, according to the Patria news agency.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning in the city of Khobar, in the basement of a six-story building used as a parking lot and furniture storage, before spreading to the floors, the civil protection stated on Twitter.

Some of the injured are in "critical condition," and the victims are of various nationalities. Aramco confirmed in a statement that the fire broke out in a building rented for its staff, adding that an investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.

Aramco is the largest oil company in the world in terms of production and exports. It employs more than 61,000 people of various nationalities, writes Index.
