
(Patria) - Six people died, while at least 68 were injured in a fire that broke out overnight in a retirement home in Milan, Italian emergency services said.
National fire service spokesman Luca Cari confirmed the number of dead, adding that three of the injured are in critical condition, 15 with serious but not life-threatening injuries, while 50 people suffered minor injuries.
He also added that the fire was extinguished and an investigation into its cause has been launched.
Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala said the fire was put out very quickly, but that toxic smoke was then released.
According to media reports, the fire broke out on Thursday shortly before midnight in a nursing home in the southeastern Milan district of Corvetto, Hina reports.
