The fire that broke out at the Konzum facility in Alipašino Polje on May 20, which firefighters battled for more than half a day, was caused by a short circuit on a cable located on the roof structure, which led to the ignition of the insulation cable, after which the fire spread to other parts of the facility, confirmed for Patria by the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office.
Azra Bavčić, spokesperson for the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, told Patria that they are still awaiting the findings of construction experts, after which the amount of damage to the facility will be known.
Firefighters battled the fire from the early morning hours; around 12:00 p.m., flames began to break through the windows of the facility, and the roof structure collapsed. Thick smoke spread throughout the entire neighborhood, and the fire was contained in the late afternoon hours. During the intervention, one firefighter sustained minor injuries, while all employees managed to exit the facility in time, and there were no injured persons.
