Fire on Alipašino extinguished: Firefighters and Emergency Services saved a baby from an apartment on the 14th floor

Firefighters and police, along with an emergency doctor who initially refused to join them but later agreed after persuasion, entered an apartment on the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Semir Frašte Street in Alipašino Polje, where a mother with a one-month-old baby was located, to provide medical assistance.

Most residents of the high-rise building where two elevators were burning, despite thick smoke in the hallway, managed to leave their apartments, but the mother with the baby did not dare to do so. However, brave firefighters managed to save the baby and carry them out of the building, reports a reporter from the Patria news agency.

Incidentally, as residents told us, strange things have been happening with the elevators over the past month or two, and all of this was reported to the police.

Resident representative Senad Redžić told us that they even organized shifts to catch whoever was sabotaging the elevators and endangering lives, but they did not manage to catch them, and the police said they could do nothing about it.

-I feared this. Someone could have died. We don't know what to do next, because someone also damaged the hydrant. I suspect everything was set up, and that the police will now adequately approach this case, said Redžić.

The emergency team cannot yet say how many interventions they have performed because residents keep arriving.

Darko Samardžić, head of the Stup Firefighting Unit, told NAP that they were called due to a report of people trapped in the elevator. But only when they arrived did they see that the elevator cabins on the 6th and 11th floors were on fire.

-We immediately started extinguishing, and due to the enclosed space, terrible smoke spread, panicking the residents. We immediately ventilated the building, but that is very difficult. The fire has been extinguished, but we will stay here until the smoke clears. All residents who needed medical assistance received it, as firefighters ensured communication for them. I believe it is a matter of electrical installations because the building is old, but that will be determined by someone else, says Samardžić.
