20 people injured: Explosion in New York was a terrorist attack

The explosion that shook the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan in New York on Saturday evening, in which at least 29 people were injured, was a terrorist attack, said Governor Andrew Cuomo, reports the BBC, as carried by the Patria news agency. 

Cuomo added that a connection between the attack and international terrorist groups has not yet been established and added that the attack caused considerable damage, but that "everyone is happy there were no fatalities."

"This is one of those nightmare scenarios. We will find those responsible for the bombing, justice will be served," he emphasized.

After the explosion, police also found a "second device" in the neighborhood, consisting of a pressure cooker with wires attached to something resembling a mobile phone. The device was removed and transported to a secure location where it will be mechanically examined, reports the New York Times.

Security has been increased in New York itself due to this week's holding of the UN General Assembly, with 135 world leaders and dozens of foreign ministers expected to attend, reports Index.
