The world's most wanted man, Salah Abdeslam, was wounded and arrested in a major police operation carried out this afternoon in Brussels, confirmed the Belgian Minister of Interior, reports Le Figaro.
Gunfire could be heard in the Molenbeek district, which had previously been the target of counter-terrorism raids.
Abdeslam was wounded in the leg, and another, as yet unidentified man was arrested alongside him. A third man was surrounded in an apartment, but there is still no official confirmation of his arrest.
Salah Abdeslam is one of the terrorists who organized and carried out the terrorist attack in Paris in November last year.
Belgian media report that the police operation is still ongoing and that explosions were heard in the district.
Abdelsman was arrested in a municipal building in the Molenbeek-Saint-Jean district, a suburb of Brussels, where two other people were reportedly staying with him.
Belgian Minister Charles Michel urgently left the summit in Brussels between the European Union and Turkey. It was previously confirmed that Abdeslam's fingerprints were discovered during a raid several days ago.
