Increased police presence needed: Arson, frequent robberies and burglaries in ten days

The security situation in Sarajevo Canton has been alarming for a long time, and daily police reports are full of various criminal acts: thefts, robberies, fires, traffic accidents, discoveries of drugs and weapons, violent behavior, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

In the municipality of Ilidža, residents have felt constant insecurity in recent days. In the last ten days alone, a butcher shop and a catering facility were robbed in the settlement of Sokolović-Kolonija, and two days ago the catering facility “Kod Sake“ burned down, which had already been targeted by thieves four times. A primary school is located in the immediate vicinity.

- In 10 days, within a radius of 100 meters, this is the third facility that has been damaged. Are the residents of Sokolović-Kolonija safe? No! During the war, I went to school alone, and now parents take their children to school until the fifth or sixth grade – is one of the comments on social networks.

As residents of this settlement state, police patrols circle the blocks, but many streets in the interior of the settlement are not patrolled by anyone. On the second to last day of 2014, the Hifa gas station was robbed at gunpoint. And car break-ins are a frequent occurrence, and they no longer happen in the dead of night, but even in broad daylight.

Due to frequent car and house burglaries, one of the councilors at the last Ilidža Municipal Council requested increased police surveillance.
