Contract Signed for Continuation of Hranjen Tunnel Construction

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Public Enterprise Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today signed a contract for the continuation of the construction of the Hranjen Tunnel with the contractor, the company EURO-ASFALT d.o.o. Sarajevo.

For the Contract worth 39,388,871.41 BAM including VAT, funds were provided by the Government of the Federation of BiH from the Budget according to the Program for the use of part of the funds „Capital transfers to public enterprises - Transfer for the construction of motorways and expressways“.

The signing of this contract was announced last week by the director of the PE Motorways FBiH, Elmedin Voloder, who said that negotiations are nearing completion to secure all necessary funds for completing the tunnel and building access roads and complete infrastructure, the construction of which will make the tunnel fully functional and open to traffic.

- The commitment of the Government of FBiH and this management of Motorways FBiH is to complete the project and open the tunnel to traffic. Once the tunnel is operational, Eastern Bosnia and neighboring parts of Serbia will be significantly closer to Sarajevo and other places in Bosnia. All users will directly benefit from the construction of the tunnel because travel time will be significantly shortened - said Voloder, as announced by the PE Motorways FBiH.

The Hranjen Tunnel is a project of special importance for the Federation of BiH. With the amount of approved funds, excavation and installation of primary support in the main and service tunnel tubes will continue from the southern/exit side, as well as the installation of part of the secondary tunnel lining on both sides of the Hranjen Tunnel (northern/entrance and southern/exit sides). 

The construction of this most demanding part of the express road Prača – Goražde consists of two tubes, 5.5 kilometers long. One will be intended for motor vehicle traffic and will contain two traffic lanes, one for each direction. The other tube will be a service tube and will be used for tunnel maintenance, as well as in case of possible accidents in the tunnel. 

The strategy of the PE Motorways FBiH is to build a network of express roads through the Federation of BiH. The Hranjen Tunnel continues to be built with the support of the Government of the Federation, and the deadline for the completion of this contract is 12 months. This year, the construction of the express road Vitez - Nević polje has also begun, and at the beginning of next year, the start of construction of the express road Bihać - Cazin - Velika Kladuša - Republic of Croatia, as well as the express road Mostar - Široki Brijeg - Grude - border of the Republic of Croatia, is planned.
