Agreement reached with the Government: Farmers unblock Izačić Border Crossing

UPDATE 13:00 - Farmers have unblocked the Izačić Border Crossing after receiving a written guarantee from the Government that the FBiH Government will pay agricultural subsidies by June 30 this year, NAP reports.

Dževahir Babić from the Farmers' Association "Krajina" confirmed that the FBiH Government has given a guarantee that subsidies for 2014 will be paid to farmers within the next 30 days.

UPDATE 10:00 - Traffic at the Izačić border crossing remains suspended due to protests by farmers in Krajina.

More than 200 farmers from Krajina have been blocking the Izačić Border Crossing with tractors since yesterday. Farmers are demanding the payment of subsidies for 2014, 2015, and the first quarter of 2016, NAP reports.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management, and Forestry paid nearly three million KM to farmers yesterday. More than five million KM was paid the day before. Farmers are not satisfied with partial payments. They demand the settlement of full debts.

Dževahir Babić from the Farmers' Association "Krajina" told NAP that farmers will only abandon the protest if they receive a written guarantee from the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Šemsudin Dedić, that they will receive the outstanding subsidies by June 30.

The FBiH Government claims it will soon hold a thematic session to discuss the method of paying outstanding subsidies to farmers. Farmers are not satisfied with such promises, NAP writes.
