Deal reached: Israel and Lebanon extend truce for another 45 days

(Patria) - Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement to extend the truce for an additional 45 days, the US State Department announced today.

The initial ceasefire was declared on April 16 by US President Donald Trump.

- The cessation of hostilities from April 16 is extended for 45 days to allow for further progress - stated State Department spokesperson Tommy Piggott.

The State Department assessed the talks between Israel and Lebanon, held on Thursday and Friday in Washington, as "very productive" and announced that the delegations will meet again on June 2 and 3.

This week's talks were the third meeting of the parties since Israel intensified airstrikes on Lebanon, which followed Hezbollah firing missiles at Israel on March 2. That attack occurred three days after the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Last month, Israel also expanded its ground invasion into southern Lebanon.

The conflict in Lebanon is unfolding concurrently with the US-Iranian war, and despite the ceasefire declared on April 16, hostilities have since been largely confined to the southern part of the country.
