Families of victims Selma and Edita: The Prosecutor's Office humiliated us, we no longer believe in institutions!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the Sarajevo Cantonal Court today, Sanjin Sefić, who was charged with causing a traffic accident in which Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč died and for failing to provide assistance after the accident, was sentenced to a single prison term of 14.5 years. The court stated in the verdict that Sefić's car was moving at a speed of 65 km/h, noting that the expert witness of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, Ševal Kovačević, did not prove that the car was moving at 105 km/h, nor that the contact between the vehicle and the pedestrian occurred at the pedestrian crossing. 

His accomplices Sara Sefić, Dino Alić, Amar Salihović, and Saud Nišić were acquitted.

The families of the victims are shocked and humiliated. They are disappointed in the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, which handled the case. Amir Agić, the father of the late Selma, emphasizes that throughout the entire process he spoke about what the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of this state are like.

- The state did not do its job properly, which is why I support Memić and Dragičević in their struggles. I knew subconsciously that we have no state, but I still sincerely hoped, because I stayed here and will stay here and will continue to fight. We move forward until the end – said Agić.

He added that he does not believe in institutions and sends a message to politicians to ask themselves why our youth are leaving.

- It is sad that they give him 14.5 years, while acquitting the accomplices. Today it feels like we lost them again – emphasized Agić.

Enesa Kekić, the sister of Edita Malkoč, said that “from the first day I did not believe in the state, and I would most like to set all this on fire.”

- The Prosecutor's Office humiliated us. I would ask everyone whether life in Bosnia and Herzegovina is worth seven years in prison. Whoever can, let them leave today, let them not spend the night in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are humiliated to the maximum. We will never forget Selma and Edita – said Enesa through tears.

The families' lawyer, Adela Duraković, is shocked by the acquittal of the accomplices.

- I expected a harsher sentence for Sefić. At least the accomplices should have received a suspended sentence – said Duraković.

The lawyer stated that the Prosecutor's Office approached this case unseriously from the beginning. The court also noted that the Prosecutor's Office presented a milder qualification which the court could not change, and that the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office failed to prove the allegations from the indictment.
