(Patria) - Heavy rainfall has hit the United Arab Emirates, causing massive floods in which 18 people have lost their lives. Dozens of people are still being searched for.
The rain started falling on Monday night into Tuesday, and according to local media reports, the amount of rain that fell in 24 hours is equal to what falls in two years.
The state news agency "WAM" called the rain a historic event, which surpassed everything documented since data collection began in 1949.
Also, strong winds disrupted air traffic at Dubai International Airport.
Schools were closed ahead of the storm, while government employees are working from home.
