SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo today, the retrial of Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović began for causing a traffic accident and obstructing evidence in the case of Dženan Memić's death after the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina overturned the acquittal verdict of the Cantonal Court from July 2018. Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, Sead Kreštalica, against whom a criminal complaint was filed with the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina for influencing the medical expert Željko Karan, read the indictment against the Seferovićs today.
The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office stood by all the evidence used in the previous trial, as did the defense attorney Rusmir Karkin, who agreed that the Trial Chamber should adopt all evidence.
Karkin reiterated his request for a third reconstruction that would provide answers about the manner of Dženan Memić's death, which the Trial Chamber rejected.
According to the verdict of the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a new team expertise in traffic engineering will be conducted by the Center for Expertise and Assessment Zenit from Banja Luka.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 30, 2019.
