SARAJEVO, (Patria) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday accused Russia of "threatening the stability of the Mediterranean" and "sowing chaos" in the countries of the region.
In a statement on "Russian influence in the Mediterranean," the outgoing US chief diplomat responded to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, who accused the US of playing political games in the Mediterranean basin.
"Minister Lavrov is wrong and is trying to rewrite history. In reality, the US is effectively cooperating with regional partners and supports UN-backed political processes in Libya," Pompeo tweeted.
On the other hand, he continued, "Russia is undermining the internal policies of Mediterranean countries, supporting the brutal dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, and fueling the conflict in Libya with groups loyal to it," Hina reports.
According to him, "Russia poses a threat to the stability of the Mediterranean by spreading disinformation, undermining national sovereignty, and sowing chaos and inciting conflict and division in the countries of the region."
Pompeo condemned Moscow's actions in Libya, Greece, and Syria at a time when the Russian president finally congratulated Joe Biden on his victory in the presidential election held on November 3.
