Polish President meets with Trump today after calling on Zelensky to de-escalate tensions

(Patria) - Polish President Andrzej Duda will meet with Donald Trump in Washington today, state news agency PAP reported, after calling on Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky to maintain peaceful and constructive cooperation with the US leader, Reuters reported.

Duda's visit comes amid a growing rift between Trump and Zelensky that has alarmed Kyiv's European allies.

"I suggested to President Zelensky that he remain committed to the course of peaceful and constructive cooperation with Donald Trump. I have no doubt that President Trump is guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability and peace," Duda wrote on social media X.

Duda, whose term expires this year, was one of Trump's preferred international partners during his presidency from 2017 to 2021, and they called their relationship friendly.

Trump on Wednesday described Zelensky as a "dictator" and warned that he must act quickly to secure peace with Russia or risk losing his country.

Zelensky responded by saying that Trump was trapped in a "bubble of disinformation," but later softened his tone and said he hoped for American pragmatism. On Friday, he said he had a phone call with Duda about dialogue with the US team led by Ukrainian envoy Keith Kellogg.

"It is important that the United States stands with us. Strong and lasting peace can only be achieved through unity," Zelensky wrote on social media X.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski is also in Washington, where he is expected to meet with US Secretary of State Marc Rubio.
