(Patria) - Poland will not play the 2022 World Cup play-off with Russia in Moscow on March 24 due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the president of the Polish Football Federation Cezary Kulesz.
"There are no more words, it's time for action", said Kulesz.
Poland has aligned its stance with the Czech and Swedish football associations and has forwarded it to FIFA.
"Based on the current and alarming development of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, including the security situation, the football associations of Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic express a firm stance that the play-off matches for qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scheduled from March 24 to 29, 2022, should not be played on the territory of the Russian Federation", they stated in a letter sent to FIFA on February 24.
They stated that they do not want to endanger the safety of their national teams and that they expect alternative solutions from FIFA and UEFA on which these matches can be played.
