German Police Blocked 2,300 Illegal Entries into the Country Since Start of Euros

(Patria) - German police have blocked 2,300 illegal entries into the country during Euro 2024, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper.

Faeser explained that over 400 arrest warrants have been executed in the past two weeks, and 50 football hooligans were prevented from entering the country.

"This shows that it is a good thing that we are carrying out checks at the borders with Denmark, the Benelux countries, and France during the European Championship," Faeser said.

The checks will continue until July 19, depending on the situation. Faeser describes the operation as a "major effort" by federal and state police.

According to German police data, 22,000 federal police officers have been deployed to monitor borders, airports, and train stations.

Faeser said her view of the football tournament is extremely positive.

"My impression is that football fans from all over Europe feel very welcome here," the German minister added.
