Police in Sarajevo Canton confiscated 17,550 pieces of pyrotechnics, warned of strict penalties for its use

(Patria) - Police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, in cooperation with inspection bodies of Sarajevo Canton, have been conducting intensified activities since December 15 to prevent the sale and use of pyrotechnic devices.

In two weeks, 17,550 pieces of various pyrotechnic devices were found and confiscated.

Requests for initiating misdemeanor proceedings were filed against 18 individuals, while 23 individuals were sanctioned by issuing misdemeanor orders.



Intensified activities will continue until January 15, 2025.

The Law on Misdemeanors against Public Order and Peace prescribes a fine ranging from 300 to 900 BAM for a misdemeanor committed by a person who possesses, ignites, transfers, sells, buys, or offers firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in a public place without the approval of the competent authority.

If such acts are committed by children or minors, their parents or guardians may be fined between 400 and 1,200 BAM.

"We emphasize that the use of pyrotechnics, especially among children and young people, can result in extremely serious injuries, often leading to permanent disability.



It should not be forgotten that the use of pyrotechnics endangers the health of the most vulnerable categories of fellow citizens: the elderly, the sick, infants, and persons with developmental disabilities.

Also, its harmful effects on the health and well-being of animals have been proven.

Therefore, we appeal to all fellow citizens and guests of Sarajevo Canton not to use pyrotechnic devices and not to allow children to use pyrotechnics," the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton stated.
