(Patria) - In an operation during the international week of combating human trafficking in Europe and beyond, 219 suspects were arrested, reported the German news agency (dpa).
The European police organization (Europol) announced today that it identified almost 1,400 victims, including 153 children, reports Jutarnji list.
The operation targeted organized groups that forced people into sexual acts, crime, and begging. A total of 276 new investigations were launched.
Examples presented by Europol include a case in Hungary, where a couple forced their six children into sex for money with neighbors and into begging in their village.
In Romania, a suspect was also arrested for forcing children into begging and prostitution.
In Laos, a Chinese national was detained for forcing kidnapped Vietnamese people to commit digital fraud. He allegedly blackmailed their families for large sums of money to release them.
39 countries, mostly European, including Germany, participated in the police operation in early June.
