Police investigating whether Glavaš threatened witnesses with death on Facebook

Police are investigating a death threat that appeared on the Facebook page of Branimir Glavaš, confirmed to Index by the Police Directorate, reports the Patria news agency. 

"Regarding your inquiries, we inform you that the police are conducting investigations and determining whether the elements of a criminal offence exist in this case. Due to the provision of the Criminal Procedure Code on the confidentiality of investigations, we are unable to provide you with more detailed information," was the response from the Police Directorate to Index's query.

Recall, on Saturday, a message appeared on Glavaš's official Facebook page, moderated by his son Filip, which can be interpreted in no other way than as a death threat against witnesses testifying against the HDSSB leader, who is still serving a sentence for war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Do not bear false witness, for God's punishment will catch up with you," was the title of the message posted on Glavaš's profile, illustrated with a photograph of five hanged individuals.

"The Eighth Commandment of God says, 'You shall not bear false witness,' and it prohibits lying, false testimony, perjury, ..., and those in this picture bore false witness and received their deserved punishment..." stated the message posted on Glavaš's profile, which was deleted after Index published its content.

The HDSSB has not officially commented on the threats made against witnesses testifying against Glavaš. Dinko Burić, a former parliamentary representative of Glavaš's party, told Index that it was a setup, suggesting that someone had hacked Glavaš's Facebook page.

Incidentally, Glavaš was released from the Mostar prison today. The Constitutional Court of Croatia on 12 January overturned the verdict for war crimes against Serbian civilians in Osijek, for which Glavaš was sentenced to eight years in prison, and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina today issued a decision on his release.
