Police blocked Brač: Bank robbers made off with 200,000 euros

During yesterday, the entire island of Brač was gripped by a drama with almost cinematic elements. The island was flooded with police officers, and all ferry lines from Brač to Split and Makarska were being checked in order to arrest the burglars who broke into the branch of Splitska banka - Societe Generale on Frane Radić Street in Bol during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, reports Slobodna Dalmacija, as carried by the Patria news agency.

From the bank, a million-euro amount was reportedly taken, at least 200,000 euros, packed in various currencies and denominations, which was not in the bank's safe but was prepared in bags for transport, the newspaper learns, noting that it may have been a tip-off, as the money was supposed to be transferred to Split shortly after the robbery.

At the time of the robbery, there was no security service in the bank, and during the break-in, the alarm did not go off, nor were the security cameras turned on.

It is assumed that the thieves have not left the island but are hiding in one of the holiday homes or apartments. The police investigation is ongoing.
