One person was killed on Bjelašnica, and another was injured, confirmed for N1 the spokesperson of the MUP of Sarajevo Canton, Irfan Nefić, reports the Patria news agency.

"I am going to the scene where I will get more information. It most likely involves hikers. Due to strong gusts of wind, it is most likely that they were buried by snow. What I can confirm now is that one person died, and another is injured," said Nefić.

Members of the Mountain Rescue Service, the Federal Administration of Civil Protection, and police teams from Sarajevo are on the ground.

The Mountain Rescue Service, Sarajevo station, announced that a rescue operation is underway on Bjelašnica, in the narrower locality of Kotlova. Teams of the GSS Sarajevo Station are at the scene and are providing assistance to the injured, and it is a specific terrain with serious injuries.

According to the latest information, the Mountain Rescue Service team announced that they reached a seriously injured female person and began transport.

"Transport of the female person started from the Kotlova area towards the junction of the Kolijevka trail. The landing of a helicopter is still expected at the location of the Kolijevka trail. In case the helicopter does not arrive, and the teams are on site, transport will start towards Babin Dol with the injured person, so that she can be transported to KUM as soon as possible," the GSS statement said.

The injured woman was successfully evacuated from Kotlova and lowered to Babin Dol, from where she was transferred to KUM by a helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to initial information, she sustained serious bodily injuries. At the accident site, the deceased hiker remained buried, whom the GSS team is trying to free from under the snow, i.e., pull out of the pit he fell into.
