Indictment Filed for Smuggling of Goods and Assault on an Official

(Patria) - The prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH filed an indictment against TRAILOVIĆ GORAN (1965) and POPOVIĆ MILOŠ (1995), born in Požarevac, Republic of Serbia, residing in Bijeljina, citizens of BiH.

The accused are charged with having, on October 17, 2018, in the place of Međaši in the municipality of Bijeljina, smuggled textile goods of significant value, clothing items of various world-famous brands, declared with the manufacturer's mark from several countries, from the Republic of Serbia into the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the indictment, the accused carried out the smuggling of the said goods by transporting them by boat across the Drina River from the area of the Republic of Serbia, where the accused reloaded the goods into a vehicle with a trailer, after which they proceeded towards the family home.

The accused then attempted to hide the goods in the immediate vicinity of the family home, where they were discovered by police officers of the Border Police JGP Bijeljina. With the intention of evading police pursuit, the accused fled together with the smuggled goods and, despite an order to stop, repeatedly attempted to prevent the police officer who was trying to stop them, and inflicted physical injuries on him, after which they left the scene.

A subsequent assessment carried out by the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH determined that the goods had a total value of 29,286.31 KM. The accused are charged with having committed the criminal offense of smuggling under Article 214, paragraph 1, and the criminal offense of assault on an official in the performance of security duties, detection or deprivation of liberty of perpetrators of criminal offenses under Article 241b, paragraph 2 in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of BiH, all in conjunction with Article 29 of the same Law. The indictment has been forwarded for confirmation to the Court of BiH.
