Indictment filed against Pakistani smuggling migrants

(Patria) - A prosecutor from the BiH Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Hassan Taimur, born in 2003 in Palia, Pakistan, a citizen of Pakistan, who is in custody.

The accused is charged with smuggling 20 migrants, citizens of Afghanistan, including one minor, from Serbia across the Drina River into BiH territory, around two o'clock after midnight on September 26th this year, in conditions of reduced visibility, in the vicinity of Zvornik.

The aforementioned migrants did not possess identification documents, and the accused committed the criminal offense knowing that these persons did not meet the conditions for legal entry or stay in BiH, as well as in EU countries.

He acted contrary to Article 6 of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, as well as the provisions of the BiH Border Control Law.

The smuggling was carried out in two instances, using a rubber boat and endangering the safety and lives of the migrants. After being spotted by police officers from the Border Police and SIPA of BiH, the accused attempted to flee, but was prevented and arrested.

The accused is charged with illegally transporting several migrants across the state border with the intention of obtaining financial gain, one of whom was under 18 years of age, thereby committing the criminal offense of Human Smuggling under Article 189 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment has been forwarded for confirmation to the Court of BiH, which has confirmed it.
