Indictment filed against Gavrilo Stević for fighting in Ukraine

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed an indictment against a BiH citizen for illegally joining paramilitary formations on foreign battlefields in Ukraine.

The prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption has filed an indictment against Gavrilo Stević, born in 1966 in Gradačac, residing in Banja Luka, the BiH Prosecutor's Office announced.

Stević is accused of traveling from BiH across the border crossing to Belgrade in 2014, in order to join a foreign paramilitary formation operating outside the territory of BiH, and from "Nikola Tesla" International Airport, he traveled to Moscow, from where he went to the areas of Ukraine, Rostov, and the Luhansk region.

In the aforementioned area, the accused, as a volunteer, together with other individuals from Serbia and BiH, illegally joined and became a member of the paramilitary formation of the "Jovan Šević" Unit, which operated against the legitimate forces of Ukraine.

Within the said unit, the accused was issued a weapon and uniform, and performed various military activities until the end of September 2014. The accused is charged with illegally joining a paramilitary formation operating outside the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and committing the criminal offense of illegal formation and joining foreign paramilitary and parapolice formations from Article 162b of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
