THE MONTH OF RAMADAN HAS BEGUN Firing of a cannon marked the beginning in Sarajevo, Reis Kavazović called to avoid the forbidden

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - With the sunset call to prayer, the blessed month of Ramadan has begun, and tomorrow is the first day of Ramadan fasting.

The month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri lunar calendar, and for Muslims, it represents a month of forgiveness, mercy, and good deeds.

Every adult, healthy, free Muslim is obliged to fast for the entire month, from dawn to sunset. This is the third pillar of Islam.

Traditionally, as every time, Sarajevans welcomed Ramadan with the firing of a cannon from the Yellow Fortress.

"Let us be merciful towards His creatures as well, and let it be seen that we are fasting. Let us avoid what is forbidden, and let us be active in doing good, so that everyone feels the blessings of our fasting.
Our God, lead us and our families into the month of Your mercy, open our paths to its blessings, and accept from us all the good we do in it," reads this year's message from the Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH, Husein ef. Kavazović.
