Plenković's Dayton upgrade possible only on economic principles

The new Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will travel on an official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, after taking office on October 19.
It has been confirmed by diplomatic sources to Fena that Plenković will travel to Sarajevo in the next few days.

Croatian policy plays an important role in relations within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, Plenković's statement from a few days ago to Deutsche Welle that "Dayton needs an upgrade" in BiH is perceived in different ways. HDZ BiH sees support for a third entity in BiH in this, while pro-Bosniak forces do not want to discuss it.

Plenković reminds that Croatian MEPs have also previously stated that it is time for an "upgrade of the Dayton framework," for which a "constitutional reform based on the principles of federalism, decentralization, subsidiarity, and legitimate representation" is necessary.

Almost identical views are expressed by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and the newly appointed Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Davor Ivo Stier.

Civic political parties in BiH, parties oriented pro-Bosniak, warn that the upgrade of Dayton should not go in the direction of new ethno-national divisions. Constitutional reforms in BiH, including the restructuring of the FBiH, are acceptable, they believe, only if they are based on economic principles, and not on the formation of three ethnically pure units in the FBiH, writes Patria.
