Pistorius accuses Putin of wanting to destabilise Germany

(Patria) - German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius yesterday accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of wanting to "destabilise" the country, after a recording from Russia was released about a confidential exchange among German officers regarding arms deliveries to Ukraine.

- It is simply the use of that recording to destabilise and undermine Germany's unity - Pistorius told reporters in Berlin.

According to him, it is clear that this is about creating political divisions on the domestic front in Germany.

- I sincerely hope that Putin will not succeed and that we will remain united - the German minister added.

On social media from Russia, an audio recording of a video conference meeting of high-ranking German officers was broadcast on Friday.

In that conversation, the hypothesis of delivering long-range German-made Taurus missiles to Kyiv was specifically discussed.

The German Defence Ministry confirmed on Saturday that the recording is authentic and that it was "intercepted".

The content of the recording comes at an awkward time for Germany, as Berlin officially refuses to deliver Taurus missiles to Kyiv, arguing that this would pose a risk of escalating the war.
